Are Disks of Satellites Comprised of Tidal Dwarf Galaxies?

چکیده

It was found that satellites of nearby galaxies can form flattened co-rotating structures called disks or planes satellites. Their existence is not expected by the current galaxy formation simulations in standard dark matter-based cosmology. On contrary, modified gravity offers a promising alternative: objects are tidal dwarf galaxies, is, small from tails interacting galaxies. After introducing topic, we review here our work on simulating Milky Way and Andromeda The initial conditions simulation were tuned to reproduce observed positions, velocities disk orientations showed had close flyby 6.8 Gyr ago. One produced captured Andromeda. formed cloud particles resembling at its size, orientation, rotation mass. A hint too. In addition, encounter induced warp simulated resembles real magnitude orientation. We present here, for first time, proper motions members predicted simulation. Finally, point out some remaining open questions which this hypothesis, satellites, brings up.

Dwarf-spheroidal satellites: are they of tidal origin?

The Milky Way and Andromeda must have formed through an initial epoch of substructure merging. As a result of fundamental physical conservation laws tidal-dwarf galaxies (TDGs) have likely been produced. Here we show that such TDGs appear, after a Hubble-time of dynamical evolution in the host dark-matter halo, as objects that resemble known dSph satellite galaxies. We discuss the possibility t...

From Tidal Dwarf Galaxies to Satellite Galaxies

The current popular cosmological models have granted to the population of dwarf satellite galaxies a key role: their number, location and masses constrain both the distribution of dark matter and the physical evolution of their hosts. In the past years, there has been increasing observational evidence that objects with masses of dwarf galaxies can form in the tidal tails of colliding galaxies a...

Satellites and Halos of Dwarf Galaxies

We study the abundance of satellite galaxies as a function of primary stellar mass using the SDSS/DR7 spectroscopic catalogue. In contrast with previous studies, which focussed mainly on bright primaries, our central galaxies span a wide range of stellar mass, 10 6 M ∗ /M⊙ 6 10 , from dwarfs to central cluster galaxies. Our analysis confirms that the average number of satellites around bright p...

The early evolution of tidal dwarf galaxies

Context. Dwarf galaxies can arise from self-gravitating structures emerging from tidal tails. What fraction of the known dwarf galaxies in the Local Universe can have this origin is still a matter of debate. Aims. In our effort to understand the origin and evolution of tidal dwarf galaxies and their correspondence with local objects, the first step is to understand how these galaxies (which are...

Star Formation in Tidal Dwarf Galaxies

Tidal Dwarf Galaxies (TDGs) are objects presently forming from gas which has been expelled from their parent galaxies during an interaction. We observed the CO emission of a sample of 11 TDGs, of which 8 were detected. The CO is found at the peak of the HI observations and has the same line velocity and width, indicating that the molecular gas is forming in situ instead of being torn from the p...
